What We Do

When our founder, Isabella Stahlman, saw the devastation caused by the coronavirus pandemic in schools in her community, she was inspired to design Tutor Corps, a volunteer corps of college and high school students to tutor at-risk elementary-age students identified by teachers as having fallen behind in reading and math.

Our Mission

The pandemic has widened preexisting achievement gaps across the country. We work to identify underserved students in local communities and pair a team of student tutors with at-risk children for free weekly virtual tutoring sessions. Our team aims to support those students who have fallen behind during the pandemic, and to empower them in their journey to academic success. We’re selective about our tutors, choosing top college and high school students who have demonstrated academic rigor, experience working with children, and a desire to make an impact.

Educators who have worked with our program’s tutors have said:

"Our students need this program more now than ever. The way school is currently structured has altered the way students interact with each other and makes it harder to reach out for help…I know that our tutors are already making an impact on their students' education!”

“When [Tutor Corps] tutors were offered to African Angels Independent School, we grabbed the opportunity to help our grade 6 learners to get more exposure to English and to help prepare them for scholarship application interviews. The tutors have had to be very patient as we have struggled with power supply and internet issues, but they have risen above the challenge and been an amazing and dedicated resource for these children.”

Our Projects

  • We pair college and high school students with at-risk elementary school and middle school students.

  • We collaborate with local nonprofits and schools to reach students throughout metro Atlanta, in Africa, and around the world.

  • Future projects include a summer learning loss prevention initiative.
